Another Discovery

Hold this and keep it with you at all times, especially when it is dark
My life was alone until I met you, and realized that there was another
One who had heard the secret chord, a thing invisible because it is a sound

I did not know the password, but you let me in anyway, maybe in pity
Or amused, to perhaps see how I would negotiate the maze of another
Conspiracy to test my will, subject me to unanswerable questions

I loved you anyway, you know,  like finding an impossibility;
A lit candle in the middle of a dark, deserted road in Winter – and another
Glowing amber in the window of a place I first did not recognize as my home

I live here now.  Now I live.  There were other times of life, of muddled
Perspective, the smells of fungus and urine in strange hallways, another
In the extensive list of tales that I could tell myself were meaningful, hoping.
