I fill in the cavities with smooth white mud

A flat vertical surface made with a piece of

cardboard from a shoe box

 

The dog chews holes in the drywall

She only does this when we have to

close her in the laundry room for the time

it takes to answer the door.

 

She does this always near the

clothes dryer, even when it is off

although when it is running,

near the bump and rushing clatter,

the holes seem larger.

 

She is a good dog – she is not trying to escape

I have considered it, and have decided

she wants to help something else get out.
