There is no rocketship

to take to the Mars colony
or even the base on the Moon
Those aren’t really settled for another
five hundred years or so
But the Earth is nice now that so many are gone
it is that peculiar shade of green that we like
and everyplace looks a little blurry
as if you had just awakened
which, in a way, we have.

Don’t worry. Lying on a metal slab,
An individual only remembers being very cold,
and a beautiful woman telling one to
breathe slowly and close one’s eyes.

For your information, once upon a time,
there was only one species of human
on the Earth, and so no one seemed to
notice the slow urge of the Play-Doh Factory
that re-molded Sapiens into Homo Rimor.

And in those days we were the explorers again,
Space and Time, and the edge of God’s toenails
Forever and ever, amen, until just now.
