The Premonition of Ice

Water crystallizes in a slim band

Determined just by the air and the land

It can’t be too cold to snow if even

There is a little moisture in the air

The fractal lace against black wool is the show

Where I entertain the engine of small

Things that require peering and resolve

Until now, when the air is seen all at once

Full of visitors intent on testing

The ground for the exact warmth required

And we can suddenly see forever

That which hides in some atmosphere until

Ready.

Like when you said your lover was more than

You intended, I was flung open

Like the sky when the haze resolves to snow

Everything comes down,

Freezing and perfect.
