Note from Friends

Arrange the night warmly, absolutely
Anticipate sleeping until the Sun is up
Already light everywhere you might arrive

Whatever day slings down to you
Sleep will arrive to comfort you at some point
And re-engage the pieces of your heart where you left them
Or where they left you, floating and half-dissolved

Your friends are gone, there are none, but the
Dream is unchanged; you have no friends in dreams.
Here emotion is crowded upper respiratory breathing
A kind of dull heat, wheezing to keep up – time for
Slumber and dreams never synchronizes, ever.

You love when those visions agree,
When the thorned bracken is burnt away for you
Transparent shields of solid gold rotate about you
And splendid resolutions crystallize out of the air

The dreams you fail to recall are
About falling, and certain death, and your heart torn from you,
Inability to translate those infuriating symbols
Appearing and disappearing, uncontrolled, unappreciated

You are just along for the flat ride.
Somewhere else your absent friends are sad, bow their heads
Perhaps they leave a note – “We think we can see you”.
